NSFAS provides complete bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in accredited courses at universities and TVET institutes. These scholarships cover study materials, lodging, food, incidental expenditures, tuition, and registration fees.
When Will NSFAS Make Funding Decisions Available?
Applications for NSFAS 2025 are officially open as of Friday, September 20, 2024, and end on December 15, 2024. Students have over 80 days to apply for student loans and NSFAS bursaries.
The NSFAS is the sole instrument available to us for the complete emancipation of our nation’s historically underprivileged youngsters.
The NSFAS bursary is available to South African citizens and Permanent Residents whose combined household income is less than R350,000 annually. Recipients of SASSA grants are automatically eligible.
The NSFAS loan program is accessible to students from households making between R350,000 and R600,000 per year if they do not fulfill the bursary requirements.
When applying for NSFAS support, students are advised by NSFAS to present truthful information, particularly regarding family income.
NSFAS will prioritize funding decisions for first-time students and SASSA grantees.
By December 31, 2024, the government bursary program will have all NSFAS funding choices finalized.
About NSFAS 2025 Applications:
The application process has been modified and enhanced, according to NSFAS administrator Freeman Nomvalo, to make it easier for candidates to submit applications in 2025.
He emphasized that, for funds to be awarded, all required documentation must be uploaded once the NSFAS application has been submitted.
Students in grade 12 can apply for NSFAS without waiting to hear back about their matric test results. All students have been urged to apply for NSFAS support.

Eligibility for NSFAS Funding:
Students from low-income households can apply for bursaries from NSFAS, while those from middle-class families can apply for loans. Students who want to be eligible for a bursary must:
- Be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a South African public university or TVET college to pursue an authorized qualification.
- On an annual household income of little more than R350,000. Students from homes that make more money than this can qualify for NSFAS loans.
- Up to R600,000 can be the annual household income of a student with a disability.
How to Apply for NSFAS?
Applying for NSFAS financing entails the following actions:
- Click the “myNSFAS” tab after going to www.nsfas.org.za.
- Sign up for a myNSFAS account.
- After selecting the “APPLY” option, fill out the necessary areas.
- Upload the required supplementary files.
- To complete your application, click “Submit.”
Documents Required for NSFAS Applications:
Candidates need to submit the following paperwork:
- a duplicate of their birth certificate or ID
- copies of the parents’, guardians’, and spouses’ IDs, if any
- Proof of income for every family member, such as pension letters or pay stubs
- A permission form that has been filled out and signed
