Means Test for an Older Person Grant:
The Sassa Means test, which assesses monthly income and assets, must be passed to be eligible for the Older Persons award. Thus, the specifics of this test criterion are as follows.
- Income Limits: The annual qualifying income limit for single individuals is R97,320. Your yearly cap, however, is R97,320 if you are married.
- Asset Limits: Married applicants cannot own assets worth more than R2 758 800. Additionally, the maximum asset worth for single applicants is R1 379 400.
Required Documents for SASSA Older Persons Grant:
When applying for the Older Persons Grant, you must provide the following paperwork to the SASSA office in original or certified copies:
Your original identity paper or 13-digit barcoded ID. In the absence of an ID:
- You must complete the affidavit form on the SASSA standard affidavit template and do it before an independent Oaths Commissioner. You can obtain the form from an SASSA official or download the SASSA affidavit by clicking this link.
- You must provide a sworn declaration attested to by a reputable individual (a counselor, social worker, traditional leader, religious minister, or school principal, for example) that can attest to your identity and age.
- SASSA will collect a fingerprint to handle your application. While your application is being processed, you will be sent to the Department of Home Affairs to get your ID. SASSA will postpone your application if you are unable to obtain the ID.
Proof of your marital status (if applicable):

- Divorce Decree: if a divorce has been granted
Proof of your current address:
- Evidence of your dividends and stocks (this will also apply to your spouse if you are married)
- Evidence of your possessions, including the value of the items you own.
- Evidence of your pension, if any
- The latest three months’ bank statement.
- If you have previously worked, you must present proof of your membership in the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), commonly called your “Blue Book,” or a release letter from your prior employer.
- A copy of your spouse’s death certificate, their will, and the initial and final liquidation and distribution accounts (if applicable) must be provided if they passed away within the last five years.

Payment Methods For SASSA Old Age Grant:
The following payment options are what SASSA will offer to accept from you.
- You can pick up your grant money at the appointed hour on a particular day.

Note: You may choose how to get the Old Age grant funds. You can choose someone at the SASSA office to accept funds on your behalf if you cannot receive the actual SASSA money.
