The Eastern Cape is the country’s second-largest province, and it offers a variety of tourist activities, including sunny beaches and snow skiing. The province comprises more than 170,000 square kilometers and is home to six district municipalities and two metropolitan municipalities. Premier Oscar Mabuyane leads the province and works in its government headquarters in Bhisho. The Eastern Cape province takes pride in its rich culture and legacy, which are rooted in the Xhosa tradition.
MerSETA is one of 21 SETAs in the country, each representing different sectors of the economy. MerSETA was established to promote young skill development under the principles of the Skills Development Act, with a concentration on engineering, manufacturing, and allied services.
About the ECOTP Bursary Program:
The Eastern Cape Office of the Premier, in collaboration with MerSETA, is asking students to apply for their bursary initiative for the 2024 academic year. The program is open to students residing in the Eastern Cape who wish to pursue studies relevant to MerSETA sector priority skills. The bursary award will finance studies in the following areas:
- Actuarial Science and Engineering (including Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials, Mechanical, and Metallurgy)
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
- Information and communication technologies (ICT)
- Manufacturing
- Business / Branding
- Polymer Technology
- Production & Operations Management
- Supply Chain / Logistics

Eligibility Requirements for the ECOTP Bursary:
Applicants must meet the following minimal entrance standards before applying:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must reside in the Eastern Cape province.
- You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
- You must be studying for a degree or diploma certification in one of the subjects of study indicated above.
- You must study in a recognized and accredited University or University of Technology in South Africa.
- You must be unemployed.
- You must be willing to work in the associated service areas.
- You must NOT participate in any other type of government funding.
- Students from previously underprivileged backgrounds will receive preference.
How to apply for ECOTP Bursary Program?
Students who meet all of the criteria above should provide the following supporting documentation:
- Identification document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate or similar (certified copy).
- Latest academic record
- Proof of registration at a South African University or University of Technology
- Proof of any other type of financial aid for study.
