Online Application of Funza Lushaka Bursary:

  • Candidates with criminal histories, misdemeanor charges, or terminations from employment do not meet the requirements for employment at Higher Education Institutions, nor do their immediate families.

  • Those with prior teaching certifications are ineligible.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate studies or a one-year (PGCE) and undergraduate studies or a four-year Bachelor of Education degree (B Ed), with a focus on Foundation Phase (Grades R–3), Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–6), Senior Phase (Grades 7–9), and FET Phase (Grades 10–12). Combining specializations in the Foundation Phase (Grades R–3) and the Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–6), the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase, or the Senior Phase (Grades 7–9) and FET Phase (Grades 10–12) are examples of combined credentials that are also valid.

The Priority Areas are:

Phase of Foundations (Grades R–3) – Foundation Phase (African Languages Preferably)

Senior and Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–9) – For a teaching major, preference will be granted in TWO of the following areas:

  • Languages
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Science & Technology

FET phase (grades 10–12): A teaching central in TWO of the following will be given preference:

  • Accounting
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Agricultural Technology
  • Civil Technology
  • Computer Applications Technology
  • Economics

  • Engineering Graphics and Design
  • Geography
  • Information Technology

Bursary Requirements:

You must fulfill the minimal entrance requirements listed below to apply online for the Funza bursary:

  • Citizen of South Africa
  • strong academic achievement
  • Graduates who have been admitted to a public university with accreditation and wish to pursue a teaching degree or become teachers (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
  • Candidates who wish to change careers and teach in this nation must be willing to take on challenging tasks, have integrity on a personal level, be devoted and passionate about teaching as a profession, and have an interest in dealing with youth.
  • Employees at Higher Education Institutions, together with their spouses and dependents, are not eligible.
  • The teaching qualification must specialize in two of the priority area disciplines.

  • Proof of graduation from high school or grade 12 for a bachelor’s degree program.
  • Minimum matriculation level 4 rating in the subject area the candidate plans to specialize in teaching.

  • A minimum of 50% on average for students who finished their matriculation before 2008, when mathematics was not required
  • Students who do not have these topics at the matriculation level but want to specialize in teaching technology subjects, such as CAT, must have a level 4 pass in mathematics.

New Candidates that are now Enrolled in College:

  • They completed and passed every module in the latest or most recent academic year at the institution of higher learning.
  • A higher education institution must have a minimum 55% average across all courses studied in the most recent or last year.
  • In the previous or most recent year of university study, a minimum of 55% average in modules studied that are related to the priority field teaching specialty

For Fresh Candidates Signing up for the PGCE:

  • To be eligible for admission to a PGCE, one must complete an accredited program.
  • Required to have a PGCE in Foundation Phase Teaching and to have majored in Psychology and an African Language
  • At least TWO recognized priority topics at the second-year level are required, and the identified priority subjects must have sufficient modules.

For existing bursary holders:

  • We passed 66.6%, or at least two-thirds, of the subject modules taken in the recent year of university study.
  • Completed and passed 66.6%, or at least two-thirds, of the priority subject area modules offered during the most recent academic year at the higher education institution.
  • passed the most critical topic; must move on to the following semester or year of study
  • A minimum 50% average across all subject modules must be met.

Application Details

  1. It is essential to apply online for Funza Lushaka.
  2. Go to the e-Gov portal at www.eservices.gov.za
    • Create an online profile by entering your personal information (or, if you already have an account, log in using your old login credentials).
    • To finish the procedure, enter the OTP (One-time PIN) you will get on your selected channel.
