What is the SASSA Grant-In-Aid?
For South Africans who currently receive the SASSA Disability Grant, Older Person’s Grant, or War Veteran’s Grant, the SASSA Grant-In-Aid is an extra grant. It helps those who are unable to care for themselves because of a severe mental or physical handicap and need full-time care at home.
They will get a monthly payment from the grant of R510 (from October 2023; scheduled to rise to R520 in April 2024) to assist with the expense of employing a caregiver or obtaining caregiving services.

Apply for a Grant-in-Aid from SASSA:
There are two valid ways of applying for a grant-in-aid from SASSA.

- You must go to their official website and click on [email protected] to apply online.
- If you did not previously have an account, register as a new user now.
- The “Register” button indicated in yellow on the SASSA website’s front page is where you may register.
- They will request that you provide them with your data.
- Your citizenship, ID number, ID document type, surname, full name, email address, password, password confirmation, and mobile phone number are among the personal information they will want.
- To receive your OTP, click the button now.
- The OTP will be sent to the cellphone number you provided when submitting your application.
- Enter the OTP to validate your registration and access the official SASSA website. You can sign up as a new user in this way.

Requirements:
The following records, in their original or certified copies, must be included with your SASSA Grant in Aid application:
- Your 13-digit bar-coded ID or identification document.
- A current medical assessment report that is no older than three months.
- Evidence of your current marital status includes a marriage certificate, divorce decree, affidavit, or death certificate.
- It was signed and completed the SASSA grant-in-aid affidavit.
SASSA Grant-in-Aid Eligibility:
- You must already be receiving benefits from the old age, disability, or war veteran grants, and you must be unable to care for yourself due to severe mental or physical conditions that necessitate full-time care at home.
- There is no state hospital or institution where you can be a patient.
- You must present a validated medical assessment report, no older than three months, attesting to your eligibility for full-time care or home support services.

One of the following three methods will be used to pay you following the approval of your grant in aid:
- Direct deposit into your or Postbank account (banks may charge service fees).
- SASSA is linked to cash withdrawals from retail establishments such as Spar, Pick & Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers, and Usave.
- Getting information from specific groups (non-profits, nursing homes, disability centers, etc.)
