As a result of this year’s higher-than-expected number of recipients, SASSA boosted awards effective October 1, 2024. During the National Treasury Budget 2024 ceremony, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana affirmed that SASSA payments had increased, helping all recipients of social grant programs, including seniors, children, and those with disabilities.
SASSA Increased Grants 1 October 2024:
They increased SASSA Grants. Higher grant payments will be made available beginning October 1, 2024, to keep up with inflation. Social grant beneficiaries, such as those who get the Social Relief of Distress (SRD), often called the SASSA R370 award, will receive larger payouts starting in July 2024. This grant has been extended through 2025 to provide ongoing help.
The National Treasury’s enlarged analysis of the Budget 2024 revealed that social grant spending in Cape Town will rise from R217.1 billion in 2024 to R259.3 billion in 2026 and 2027. Enoch Godongwana, the finance minister, said during the budget speech.
- We intend to raise SASSA payments to cover living costs for the more than 27 million South Africans who depend on social handouts. We have accomplished this goal to the extent that the budget permits,” the finance minister stated.
- President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa also fulfilled his pledge to “increase SASSA R350 in 2024 with a permanent increment of R370 payments” in his most recent SONA speech.
The SASSA grant payment amount for old age, war veterans, disability, and care dependence awards was increased by R90 by the South African government. This sum is valid as of October 2024 and will rise by an extra R10. Other awards have also been modified; the child support grant has increased by R20, and the foster care grant for foster children has increased by R50.
