What is the Means Test for a War Veterans Grant?

• Your combined annual income as a married couple should not exceed R194,640.

Assets Test:

• Your assets should not amount to more than R1,379,400 if you are single.
• The total worth of your assets as a married couple cannot be more than R2,758,800.

How much does the SASSA Veterans of War Grant cost?

As of April 1, 2024, the SASSA award increased, and the monthly stipend for war veterans was R2,200 per individual. On October 1, 2024, the grant amount will rise to R2,210 per person per month. There is no price to apply for War Veterans Grants and no cost to apply.

Required Documents to Apply for War Veterans Grant:

When applying for a War Veterans Grant, you must provide the following paperwork to the SASSA office (original or certified copies):

Evidence of your military service, such as a service award.

Your original identity paper or 13-digit barcoded ID. In the absence of an ID:

• Bank statements for the last three months or paystubs if you are employed.
• Whether you are eligible for UIF benefits or your UIF card.
• If employed, you must submit a copy of your previous employer’s termination letter or proof of your Unemployment Insurance Fund membership (UIF).
• Pension receipt, if you get one (if applicable)
• Evidence of all your investments and details on the interest and dividends you get. (If relevant)
• Records that list your possessions and, if relevant, the property’s worth

Timeline:

Up to three months will pass while your application for the military veterans grant is processed. Following your application’s acceptance, the payments begin. Restoration of the Grant:

One of the following scenarios will result in the expiration of your war veterans grant:

• If you die.

• Suppose your grant payments are not received for three consecutive months. You must file a new grant application if the delay is over ninety days. However, you can petition to have them resumed.
• You are accepted into a hospital or jail that receives all its government funding.
• You abruptly leave the nation for a period exceeding ninety-nine days.
• If your assets and income increase, the means test disqualifies you from receiving the grant,

Your social grant will be cut in half if you wind up in a facility under contract with the state. This correction will take place starting in the fourth month following your admission. Your award maximum amount will be instantly reinstated upon your release.

The Beneficiaries’ Obligations:
